Richard bland 2017 review

Updated: Jul 23, 2018

“Blandy” has proved once again to be a highly consistent performer on the European Tour in 2017. Following a finish in the top 30 on the 2016 European Tour money list, he set himself up nicely to push on in 2017, as well as seeing him automatically qualify for The Open at Royal Birkdale in July.

As one of Britain’s most exciting motorsport talents, the West Sussex based youngster has added some impressive accolades to his CV in 2017.

The former Southampton Football Club goalkeeper trialist has certainly extended his image in the golfing world this year. Strong performances midway through the year reflected his ability to compete at the top level, with a 19th placed finish in July’s Scottish Open and a tied second sport at the BMW International Open representing his best showing. The event in Bavaria not only saw Blandy lock horns with global stars such as Sergio Garcia and Henrick Stenson as the competition reached its climax, but also saw him shoot under 70 in each round; the only player to do so. This, along his questionably best ever career shot on approach to the last, is a remarkable achievement given the hugely pressurised environment that he was operating in.

Blandy’s dashing summer form continued onto the biggest stage of all at Royal Birkdale. Despite fading away over the weekend, his performance preceding the cut saw him leading the world’s most prestigious competition on the Friday. Nobody does that unless they are a truly talented golfer.

As we look forward to 2018 with Blandy we are all hopeful that he can push on and challenge further for some of the sport’s top prizes. He will be aided by a new agreement with adidas who will now be providing his clothing for the forthcoming season.
